Xin loi :-)

Today I was in District 1 on Dinh Thien Hoang street riding my motorbike.  As I was leaving the sidewalk to get back onto the street, an older man came from behind a van going the wrong way against the traffic.  We nearly ran into each other.

Normally what would happen is that at least one of us would start yelling at each other.  Instead, he smiled at me and said “xin loi” enough to make me smile back.

Then I rode my motorbike onto the street and cut everybody else off without apologizing…  :-)
