I have twenty-eight years experience with computers including nine years as a web developer and six years as a Linux system administrator. I have practical experience using computer programming languages including Perl/CGI and PHP, and am currently learning Python. I am very interested in helping businesses migrate from propriety to open source technology (servers, operating systems, telephone systems, etc.) to help cut technology operating costs.

Duties: Formed the Amerasian Foundation, a nonprofit organization developed to give Amerasians a Voice in the US and Asia. As President, the AF developed a cooperative partnership with three key organizations in an effort to achieve the AF’s mission and purpose (Amerasian Family Finder, Operation Reunite and Adopted Vietnamese International) as well as establishing a global network in the US, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand. Implemented an IT Policy that kept the AF as a virtual online entity. Designed initial website with strict XHMTL and CSS that helped optimized the website with all popular search engines. Developed the Amerasian Registry with a PHP graphic user interface as the front-end and MySQL database as the back-end. Managed Amerasian Registry database with phpMyAdmin front-end software. Later redesigned and migrated Amerasian Foundation website to Wordpress, an open source blogging application.

Changed name of SaigonLUG to Saigon Linux Group in April, 2007, to focus more on SMEs in the promotion of Open Source Technology. The original SaigonLUG is now known as ViPLUG.

Duties: Searched, converted, and digitally archived in portable document format all of Dr. Nazif Shahrani’s articles and journals. Assessed new IT tools to use for the ACARI project from various university sources. Set up the ACARI web account, designed the website with Macromedia Dreamweaver and created the ACARI logo with Macromedia Fireworks. Selected Project Members for the Search Engine component of the project. A search engine was developed with Perl/CGI to utilize metadata embedded in the portable document files (pdf) as part of the search function. Created a HTML-to- Email form for the ACARI website based on John Callendar’s mail_form.cgi* program. The ACARI Project was chosen as one of the Outstanding Student Project Highlights at Indiana University – Bloomington, in late 2004.

Process Tracking Information System Project Team

Duties: Designed a Permit Process Tracking Information System for the Department of Planning. Held meetings with CIO to assess and determine the needs of the Planning Department. Designed and drafted the prototype permit tracking system utilizing the System Development Life Cycle, Data Flow (DFD) and Entity/Relationship (E/R) diagrams. Mr. Project and Microsoft Project were used as the project management tools. Met again with city officials before continuing to second phase of the project. Database back-end was created initially with Microsoft Access and then migrated to Oracle. The User Interface components was designed with Macromedia Dreamweaver and Fireworks. All coding was done in Perl/CGI. Prototype handed over to Planning Department when project was completed.
