City Diner at The Manor

The City Diner at The Manor is still one of my favorite restaurants to visit. I met up with Patrick and had a late breakfast there. I enjoyed an American an omelet and a rack of pancakes. I think the breakfast there is quite comparable to Black Cat in District 1.

Mexican Food at Mimosa

Okay, I will admit it, I tend to spend most of my lunches at Mimosa, 88 Bui Vien Street (Pham Ngu Lao) for the last 5 years. I have known some of the wait staff and chef for a really long time now. The chef is one of the best in the backpacker area in my opinion. He is really good at Tex-Mex dishes such as my favorite below:

Kedai Shamsudin – Best Halal Restaurant in Saigon

Today I had lunch at Kedai Shamsudin in District 10. My first impressions of this restaurant was wow!!! Talking about good customer service. The people here are amazing and polite. The decor was very pleasant and the restaurant was quite clean (when compared to VN.Halal). It is just a nice restaurant to have a meal in.

Kedai Shamsudin is a halal restaurant catering to Malaysian as well as Vietnamese halal cuisines. I ordered the 6 piece beef satay and the chicken/beef nasi goreng for the main meal with a Coke. Okay guys, this is by far the best nasi goreng and satay I have ever had in Saigon. Three and a half hours later, I swear I can still taste them in my mouth. I want more!!! It gets even better, the price for the entire meal was 95,000 VND! It is a bargain when compared to the other halal restaurants in the city (such as the overpriced VN.Halal).

Kedai Shamsudin is the “Best Halal Restaurant in Saigon!” Give it a try. It is about 5-10 by taxi and motorbike from District 1. They also deliver.

Sara Halal Food Restaurant – Phu Nhuan District

I finally got some pictures of the halal restaurant, Sara, I visit at least twice a week. The food there is really good and inexpensive. I spend roughly 20,000-25,000 VND for each meal I get there, mostly a different variety of fried rice.

Oddly enough, I just found out the name of the restaurant today. The service is great, one of the best in the city.

I will add Sara to the list of Halal Restaurants shortly. I will visit a couple more this month.

One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants

I went to one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants last Sunday night that serves seafood and a fish hotpot. It is a local restaurant so you never see any Expats or tourists here. Probably a good thing, none of the staff speaks English.

I normally eat the fried fish which is really good. I have it with a seafood fried rice. My girlfriend will eat the fish hotpot. The sauce is not bad but I do not like eating this particular fish when it is boiled. It is good barbecued on a stick, though. The shrimp are good as well.

Sorry, I forgot the name. I will try to get a business card the next time around. For now, enjoy the photos:

Thanh Nien Restaurant

Thanh Nien Restaurant is one of my favorite places to meet with friends when I am in District 1. It is actually a very popular restaurant with the Vietnamese but little known with Western Expats. It sits next to the Trung Nguyen Coffee located opposite of Diamond Plaza.

The service and food is not bad but what I really liked about Thanh Nien is that is is quiet. You can meet friends and no worry about the blaring music prevalent in the other popular coffee shops these days in Saigon.

Thanh Nien Restaurant is located on 35 Hai Ba Trung street in District 1 just opposite of the Korean restaurant.

Early morning Pho at Pho 24 – Saigon

Before my business trip over a week ago, I had an early morning meeting at Pho 24 with a friend. I do not normally eat at Pho 24 since I prefer the pho in my alleyway. Still, Pho 24 makes a good bowl of pho and at least I will not sweat much inside the air conditioned restaurant as I would in the alleyway.

You can find Pho 24 almost anywhere in Saigon now. In fact, there are probably too many Pho 24s. In an effort to increase revenue, one of Pho 24′s main investors forced them to open stores across the city. Most likely a Western investor who probably does not realize that only a few select group of people in Saigon can afford the pho at Pho 24.

Most of us prefer the alleyway pho vendors thank you

Anyway, still, Pho 24 is a great place for Expats and Tourists to get a taste of good pho. Much better than Pho 2000 I might add.

I had some sushi with Hiro and some other friends and contacts tonight at Sushi Bar 3 on 3A Ton Duc Thang in District 1 of Saigon. It was my first time visiting this restaurant. Sushi Bar 3 is much bigger and more spacious than Sushi Bar 1 or 2.

No, I did not eat any sashimi today but I decided I will try it the next time I visit a Japanese restaurant. Mouth watering pictures below:
