Nice sandwich at Java Cafe11.30.08

I ate a really good chicken sandwich at Java Cafe last week.  As everyone knows by now, Java Cafe is one of my favorite coffeeshops in Saigon.

Bobby Brewers Coffee (Le Van Sy) - Big Disappointment08.29.08

Well, I am back at Java Cafe in District 1.  I actually started out at the new 3-month old Bobby Brewers on Le Van Sy street near my house in the Phu Nhuan District.  I decided to try it out after passing by it so many times.

I should have just passed by as normal.  It was a big disappointment for me.

The staff was nice and ordering was easy.  Much of the same service you would expect from Bobby Brewers.  Unfortunately the pancakes that I ordered were a bit too thick and dry.   The scrambled eggs were fine but overall, I was a bit disappointed with this breakfast (Only the Black Cat in District 1 seems to be able to make some good breakfasts anymore).

The other problem with Bobby Brewers in this location is that the wifi was not working.  Actually, for me it was a big problem since I needed to get some work done.  The staff came and reset the modem about three times but it was not broadcasting.  Finally, instead of trying to get it to work, they left.

Still, it was a pleasant place to sit and relax.  I would not mind chatting there with friends.  If they are able to get the wifi to work, I can actually use this location as a temporary office as well.

Today, though, it was not the place for me to get my work done.  Instead, as I mentioned above, I headed to my favorite ‘office’ at Java Cafe :-)

Edit: This Bobby Brewer’s location service has improved signifantly since this post.  I have visited it twice and am quite impressed with the service now.  It is a decent location to do some work, food is better, and wifi faster.

Another morning at Java Cafe - Allergies are back08.19.08

I guess I really like it here.  I need to get a presentation re-organzized to meet tomorrow’s deadline.  Having a nice chocolate cheesecake now with a cafe sua da :-)

Meeting Ms. Annie (Meet me in Saigon) for lunch here as well.

Anybody out there suffering from unsual allergies now?  My allergy medicine does not seem to work this year.  My eyes are blacker than black now and it is not from a lack of sleep.  I get 7-8 hours of sleep a night now.  I think it is due to the dust generated from the construction in the next alleyway.

At least Java Cafe is nice and dust free :-)

Monday Morning at Java Cafe08.11.08

It is Monday morning and I am back at Java Cafe.  I really need to start working on an open source presentation which I knew I would not be able to do at home.  Too many distractions.  I find that when I start my work at Java Cafe, or another location, I can get more work done.  Later I can finish it at home :-)

This morning Saigon was hit with another rain storm.  August tends to be wet here.  It should alleviate a bit by the end of the month.  I can’t wait, I am actually looking forward to the dry season.  I got wet riding my motorbike to Java Cafe but it felt good.

Got a 2 PM trip to DPI to work on my business license.  It is taking longer than expected.  I really do not want to form a company but it looks like I will have to take that route :-(  It means investing some money which I really do not want to do since Vscapeone will be a contract based company.

Well, in general, this has been a very good Monday.

Friday Morning at a Coffeeshop08.08.08

I am currently at Java Cafe in District 1 this morning.  The electricity was turned off in my area at 8 AM.  It will be turned back on roughly at 6 PM.  I guess my area will lose it’s power every Friday now.

I decided to leave my house early than I normally would on a weekday.  No fans means it gets hot quite fast in my room.  Today it is more humid than normal so I wanted to get out.  I will meet two of my students to help them install laconica today on Ubuntu.  The install was not that difficult for the intermediate Linux user and I know my students will be able to do it.

I will sit here until about 3 PM and then head home for my afternoon nap.  Got a wedding reception to attend at 6:30 PM with my American friend and his Vietnamese wife.

Until then, I will enjoy my bacon and eggs with toast.  Yeah, I have a coke here but I actually enjoy drinking a coke first before ordering an ice coffee with milk :-)
